Toray Group to Showcase Innovations at CAMX's 10th Anniversary Conference in San Diego

27 August 2024

Morgan Hill, Calif. (Aug 27, 2024) — The Toray Group, a global leader in innovative high-performance composite material solutions, is thrilled to announce it will exhibit at CAMX 2024 in San Diego from September 9th to 12th.

Toray will highlight the applications of its TORAYCA™ carbon fiber, thermoset prepreg materials, Toray Cetex® and CFRT® thermoplastic composite materials used in the aerospace and defense, automotive, sports and recreation, and industrial markets at booth CC33.

CAMX will be celebrating its tenth anniversary of bringing ideas, science, and industry champions together in the composites world. The Toray Group invites visitors to the booth to connect with technology experts on composite material solutions for weight reduction, decreased fuel consumption, and improved strength, safety, and comfort in various industries.

Booth samples to be displayed include a Composite Overwrapped Pressure Vessel (COPV), which was manufactured with next-gen TORAYCA™ T1100 carbon fiber to produce the lightest possible vessel with the ability to withstand the highest pressure; An AAM propeller blade designed by the Atoms-to-Aircraft NASA ULI initiative using Toray Cetex® and a medical knee brace component made of CFRT® TL-6000, the strongest, stiffest composite sheet material offered in the orthopedic field.

Additional featured booth demos include:

  • Toray 2700 toughened prepreg system, the next-gen 250°F resin system is now available with the TORAYCA™ T1100 IM+ carbon fiber. With the strength and stiffness of the T1100 carbon fiber, this rapid cure resin is ideal for aerospace and defense applications that need lower weight and stiffer fiber, such as high aspect ratio wings and blades. The material exhibits excellent structural properties, press cures in five minutes, and is compatible with multiple applications, including AFP/ATL, OOA/VBO, autoclave, hand layup, and press molding.
  • Cetex® PA+™ TC915 is a new strengthened polyamide thermoplastic material for high-performance applications with exceptional mechanical properties higher than typical polyamide-based composites and Nylon materials. This new thermoplastic material is excellent for sporting goods, high-performance industrial applications, automotive structures, energy (oil/gas, hydrogen), Urban Air Mobility (UAM), and Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) applications.
  • Cetex® TC1225 LMPAEK is the first globally recognized Nadcap accredited high-performance thermoplastic for aerospace applications and a leading material technology utilized in programs such as Clean Sky 2, Netherlands LH2 Composite Tank consortium, and the NASA HICAM program. Currently, Cetex® TC1225 LMPAEK thermoplastic materials are undergoing NCAMP qualifications with NIAR using standard modulus (T300J & T700G) and intermediate modulus plus (T1100G) TORAYCA carbon fibers.
  • CFRT® TL-6000 is a continuous fiber-reinforced thermoplastic laminate. This product is available in multiple constructions from 2-Layers up to 7-Layers; all ultra-thin, lightweight, and resilient. This material can be drilled, ground, polished, and heat adjusted. TL-6000 has a smooth, high-gloss finish and is used widely in the Orthopedic market.

In addition to the exhibition, Pedram Parandoush from Toray Advanced Composites is set to present “Material Performance of Newly Developed Toray Cetex® PA+™ TC915 for use in Composite Structures” on Tuesday, September 10th at 2 pm local time.
