Toray's Ultra-High Temperature Composites
Toray Advanced Composites' line of cyanate esters, polyimides, and BMIs perform exceptionally in extreme aerospace and defense operating temperatures in excess of 260–371°C (500–700°F). These thermally stable materials replace traditional titanium and other metals, offering increased design flexibility and significant weight savings.
- Jet engines, ducts, and stators
- Leading edges on hypersonic vehicles
- Heat shields and heat protection systems
- Rocket engine nozzles, thrusters, and powerplants
- Titanium replacement in aircraft and launch vehicles
- High temperature composite tooling
Toray Advanced Composites polyimides are developed in partnership with PROOF Research's P2Si division, making Toray the exclusive aerospace prepreg provider for PROOF Research’s polyimide resin systems.
Features
High Service Temperature
Toray's ultra-high temperature prepreg systems utilize BMIs, cyanate ester, and polyimides for high temperature jet engine applications. Capable of service temperatures up to 371°C/700°F, these resin systems are provided in prepreg form on carbon or ceramic fabrics.
Resists Microcracking
Toray's ultra-high temperature polyimides, BMIs, and cyanate esters are designed to resist thermal oxidation and resist microcracking in extreme environments.
Lightweight
Toray's composite materials offer significant weight savings over titanium for use in jet engine components, heat shields, and missile leading edges.
