Toray Marks 100 Years, Reinforcing Long-Term Commitment to Aerospace, Space, and Defense at Farnborough Air Show

Tokyo, Japan, June 30, 2026 – Toray Industries, Inc., a global leader in advanced materials and innovative technologies, will showcase its latest capabilities at the Farnborough International Airshow from July 20–24. Colleagues from Europe, North America, and Asia will come together to demonstrate Toray’s global strength and long-term commitment to the aerospace, space, and defense sectors.

As Toray marks its centenary, the company will highlight its enduring commitment to delivering advanced material solutions that address current and emerging requirements across aerospace, space, and defense applications. This includes a continued focus on strengthening secure, resilient supply chains and expanding production capacity to support sovereign capabilities in key global markets.

High Performance Materials

Toray’s comprehensive product portfolio - including TORAYCA carbon fiber, high-performance thermoset systems, and Toray CetexTM thermoplastic composites – offers a balance of strength, toughness, processability, and long-term durability. These materials are engineered to meet stringent qualification and certification requirements in aerospace, defense and advanced mobility applications, underscoring Toray’s long-term commitment to reliability and performance in critical applications.

Recent product introductions from Toray’s intermediate product portfolio include:

TC1810, is an ultra-high temperature polysiloxane-based preceramic resin system designed for excellent thermo-mechanical performance whilst still easy to process at lower temperatures with both hand lay-up and automated fiber placement methods. With an operating temperature range of 260° C to 1000° C (500° F to 1832° F), TC1810 is designed for applications ranging from battery containment to thermal protection systems (TPS), heat shields, and leading edges for industries including aerospace, space, and defense.

3960-FC is a fast-cure variant of the high-performance, highly toughened 3960 prepreg system. It reduces cure time by up to 45% while maintaining the proven mechanical performance of 3960, delivering exceptional toughness and damage tolerance. 3960-FC enhances prototype capabilities by enabling lower temperature tooling and expands vacuum-bag-only (VBO) processing windows. It is also capable of compression molding consolidation, resulting in reduced tact times and lower manufacturing costs. Unlike many accelerated epoxy systems, 3960-FC exhibits low exotherm risk for thicker structures. The material is highly compatible with automated manufacturing technologies, including Automated Fiber Placement (AFP) and Automated Tape Laying (ATL).

Secure, Sovereign Supply

With fully established local manufacturing and supply chains across Europe, the United States, Japan, and Korea, Toray supports domestic sourcing requirements for defense programs worldwide. The company currently supports a wide range of platforms across air, land, sea, and space, with its carbon fiber, low dielectric, high-temperature and structural advanced material solutions. Toray has advanced IT systems to meet the stringent information control requirements of the defense industry and can support classified programs from select facilities.

In Europe, Toray continues to invest for the long term in its manufacturing footprint, with ongoing expansion of carbon fiber production capacity to support growing regional demand of standard- and high-modulus carbon fibers qualified for commercial aviation, space, and defense applications. Advanced towpreg materials are also available, supporting filament winding and automated fiber placement processes for next-generation aerostructures.

Through these initiatives, Toray reinforces its long-term commitment to enabling innovation, strengthening supply resilience, and supporting the ongoing needs of the global aerospace, space, and defense industries.
