Toray Advanced Composites Expands NCAMP Qualifications of High-Performance Low Melt PAEK Composite Material System
Morgan Hill, Calif. (May 27, 2026) –Toray Advanced Composites (“Toray”), a leading developer and supplier of advanced composite materials, announces expanded NCAMP qualifications for its high-performance Toray Cetex® TC1225 LMPAEK™ thermoplastic composite material system, further broadening approved material formats and processing methodologies.
Toray has successfully expanded the high-performance Toray Cetex® LMPAEK™ NCAMP databases to include TC1225/TORAYCA™ T700 uni-directional (UD) tape prepreg. Toray Cetex® TC1225 becomes the first thermoplastic composite material system NCAMP qualified in both woven and uni-directional material formats, further expanding versatility of design and processing options. This builds on Toray’s qualification of the TC1225/TORAYCA™ T300 fabric qualification announced at the end of 2025.
Broadest Processing Methodologies in NCAMP
The Toray Cetex® TC1225/TORAYCA™ T700 material qualification was completed using Automated Fiber Placement (AFP) using both Electroimpact and Coriolis systems followed by a vacuum bag oven (VBO) out of autoclave post consolidation process. The database was augmented with five supplemental process equivalencies to cover the broadest scope of processing methodologies for a thermoplastic composite material. These include static press, autoclave, OOA/VBO, automated tape laying (ATL), shuttle press and continuous compression molding (CCM). This expanded qualification and equivalency framework supports the acceleration of thermoplastic composites and their integration into primary and secondary aircraft structures.
Toray Cetex® thermoplastic composite materials can also be configured and supplied with integrated functionalities - such as lightning strike protection and galvanic corrosion protection – delivering additional processing efficiencies and functional benefits for aerospace applications.
High Performance, Low Melt, and Optimized for Part Processing Ease
Toray Cetex® TC1225/TORAYCA™ T700 uni-directional tape prepreg has an engineered resin rich configuration ideal for automated processes such as ATL/AFP tape layup / automated ATL/AFP. Its highly uniform, low void impregnation enables consistent, optimized mechanical properties while supporting significantly improved manufacturing rates.
“Following our recent NCAMP qualification of the fabric based semi prepreg and laminates in December 2025, we’re excited to be adding this high performance, process optimized Cetex® TC1225/T700 UD tape to our family of NCAMP databases. This further reinforces Toray’s commitment to accelerating adoption of thermoplastic composites across the aerospace supply chain,” said Scott Unger, CEO of Toray Advanced Composites. “We work closely with industry leaders to develop automation ready AFP and ATL solutions that improve cycle times and enable cost efficient, high-rate production.”
An additional NCAMP material qualification of Toray Cetex® TC1225 uni-directional tape, reinforced with TORAYCA™ T1100, is currently in progress and is expected to be completed by September 2026.
