TenCate supplies composites to ICON Aircraft A5 Amphibious Sport Aircraft

This press release was issued as TenCate Advanced Composites, prior to our acquisition by Toray Indutries and name change to Toray Advanced Composites in 2019.

TenCate Advanced Composites is a key supplier of advanced composites to ICON Aircraft for the innovative A5 Amphibious Sport Aircraft, which recently had its first flight and successful unveiling. The aircraft company has already received market response for more than 1,400 A5 positions.

The first production of the A5 Amphibious Sport Aircraftmakes extensive use of advanced composites from TenCate to achieve high strength, lightweight and outstanding performance in a wide range of environmental conditions. ICON Aircraft is a consumer sport plane manufacturer founded in response to the new sport flying category. ICON’s first plane is the A5, an amphibious sport aircraft that fuses outstanding aeronautical engineering with world-class product design. “The A5’s development has been a massive undertaking,” says ICON Vice President of Engineering and CTO, Matthew Gionta. “The ICON team worked tirelessly to make the A5 a reality. With ESN-1 complete and ESN-2 under construction, we are now looking toward FAA approval, after which we will begin customer deliveries. I can’t wait for our customers to finally experience the finished product.” It has won some of the world’s most prestigious design awards and has inspired a global following. The company has already received market response for more than 1,400 A5 positions.
