The Quality Engineer is responsible for assisting the Manager of Quality and Continuous Improvement in maintaining and improving the Quality system.  The elements of that system, for which the Quality Engineer is particularly responsible, are the Non-conforming Materials Review Panel, Corrective Action Teams, Quality Policies and Procedures, including Standard Laboratory Procedures and their repeatability and reproducibility, Metrology for all operational measuring equipment, mathematical analysis and capability support for statistical process and quality control, Document Control approvals and internal and Customer quality audits.
Additionally, the Quality Engineer may be involved in Product Development, new product qualification process, Supplier Quality Assurance, Root Cause Analysis, and the initiation and control of changes to quality systems.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists the Non-conforming Materials Review Board (MRB), which determines the disposition of materials suspected of non-conformance to requirements in accordance with the Quality Assurance Manual. The MRB will propose Corrective Actions to the Corrective Action Teams, based on data generated in the evaluation of non-conforming materials. The team will regularly report to management their actions as well as summary of causes of non-conforming materials.
  • Assists the Corrective Action Process by the issue, monitoring and resolution of such requests in accordance with the Quality Assurance Manual.  Typically deals directly with product related issues and requests priority from the plant management for business systems related issues. Included in this activity is the regular reporting of defect analysis and proposed solutions for preventative action.
  • May assist in the implementation and use of statistical tracking of Quality Control test results. These results will be used for both corrective and preventative action as well as to evaluate a product’s capability to meet new Customer requirements.  Conducts design of experiments, analysis of failures, reliability studies and training of internal and process auditors.
  • Additional assignments of the Quality Engineer will include support of Product Development teams as needed, product testing support for the Quality Control department, failure analysis support as needed, maintenance of both Toray and Customer Process Control Documents and raw materials specifications.
  • Further activities include communication with Customers in resolution of issues and problems and Customer audits, as they are assigned and the review and approval of customer required quality certifications and test reports.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Quality Manager or designee.

Experience and/or Education Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree, preferably in a chemical or engineering discipline.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in quality, process, or manufacturing engineering.
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills  Statistical knowledge including Statistical Process Control and Reliability and Repeatability

  • Hands-on experience with Quality Management Systems (QMS) and testing methodologies.

Preferred Skills/Knowledge:

  • Ability to work within MS office environment.
  • Familiar with ERP systems environments.
  • ASQ Certified
