Toray Advanced Composites USA is a worldwide market leader in the development and production of advanced thermoplastic and thermoset composites. Segments served include satellite, radome, general aviation, UAV, military and general industrial. TenCate works with both customers and suppliers in the development and production of advanced composite materials enabling overall structural performance.

Research & Development Chemist/Engineer supports the Company’s expanding research and development of composite materials activities in the Aerospace and Space markets. In addition, some technical service work may be required.

  • Experience in thermosetting resin formulations preferable in epoxy and cyanate ester areas.
  • New product and process technology development based on the market requirements and situations
  • Application development of existing products
  • Support Marketing and Sales to achieve planned Company objectives
  • Direct and manage lab technical personnel to achieve all departmental goals and objectives
  • Support the Manufacturing function to enhance efficient and effective material production
  • Knowledge of the current and new technological movement in the resin and composite materials in the Aerospace and Space markets.
  • Develop and establish material processing techniques and standard for composite materials of interest.
  • Manage testing and audit results- conducts complex analysis to determine reasons for failures of materials, parts or processes.

Experience and/or education requirements

  • Minimum M.S. in Chemistry preferred; Polymer Science and Engineering, or Material Science considered
  • Minimum 7 years of combined academic and industrial lab experience in the resin or fiber composite area
  • Working experience in thermosetting resins (epoxy, cyanate ester, etc.) with understanding of the composite industry
  • Process development experience with composite materials
  • Good understanding of material structure and property relationship
  • Familiar with mechanical testing methodology of composite materials
  • Familiar with thermosetting resin properties, characterization and processing especially as they relate to carbon and glass fibers
