Toray Advanced Composites is a leading supplier of thermoplastic and thermoset composite materials for the aerospace and industrial advanced composite industry.  The thermoset composites from Toray Advanced Composites are used on satellites, radomes, unmanned aircraft, general aviation and military aircraft.  Toray Advanced Composites also provides thermoset composites in high end industrial and recreational applications ranging from oil and gas to prosthetics to sporting equipment.  We provide thermoset materials with epoxy, BMI, cyanate ester or high temperature polyimide resin matrices.

The Toray Advanced Composites thermoplastic prepregs are known in the industry under the Cetex brand and are found in commercial and military aircraft ranging from structural to interior applications.  Toray Advanced Composites provides both thermoplastic prepregs in unitape or fabric from in a variety of high-end thermoplastics including PEEK, PPS, PEI as well as a full line of performance thermoplastics including Nylon, PET, PC/ABS, HDPE, and PP.

Summary of Functions:

The R&D Technician is responsible for supporting all R&D activities in the resin and prepreg development area. Engineer supports the Company's expanding research and development of composite materials activities in the Aerospace and Space markets. In addition, some technical service work may be required. 

Major Duties and Requirements:

  • Perform lab mixes of new and experimental resin systems as directed Perform lay up and cure of composites following specific procedures Perform mechanical and chemical test of resin and composites
  • Ability to be trained to run analytical and mechanical testing equipment Recording of experimental results in lab book and computer files
  • Maintain MSDS records and safety procedures of all chemicals in the resin lab Maintain cleanliness of the lab areas

Experience and/or Education Requirements:

  • Minimum High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in working with resinous materials and handling chemicals
  • Strong math skills addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentage calculation and unit conversion required
  • Skilled in the use of basic precision measurement equipment such as scales, calipers, micrometers and basic computer skills
  • MS Office (Word, Excel) proficiency required
  • Ability to work accurately and efficiently to complete assigned tasks thoroughly and promptly with supervision by the Sr. Technician or Engineer
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and technical skills
  • Must be able to communicate clearly (written and verbally)
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills and the ability to work with all levels of the company
  • Maintain work areas in neat. orderly and safe manner
  • Must be capable of lifting up to 20 lbs.
