Summary of Job:The Scheduler/Planner 1 is responsible developing production schedules for assigned production equipment, expediting production as necessary, determining time-phased raw material requirements and providing them to procurement, generating all required shop floor production work orders, and providing status of assigned open orders to others as needed. The Scheduler/Planner 1 reviews current schedules and work orders while making recommendations to help determine what resources (i.e. materials, labor, outside processing, and equipment) are required and how to allocate them to achieve optimum manufacturing efficiencies.  When changes arise, the Scheduler/Planner 1 must revise production schedules and communicate any changes that will negatively affect any internal departments and the end customer.  This requires coordination with supervisors and other employees, vendors and customers.

 Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Ensures that all activities are performed in a safe manner.
  • Maintain work areas in neat, orderly and safe manner.
  • Ensure shipments meet committed ship dates, work with Sales and Customer Service to determine committed dates and keep them updated to any changes.
  • Schedule each assigned key area and piece of equipment and that any material availability and quality issues are resolved to ensure that the product is completed to meet customer commitments.
  • Schedule subassemblies (resin mix, adducts, films, etc.) as needed to support production.
  • Manage outside processing activities as needed to support production to meet customer due dates.
  • Determine raw material requirements, prepare and release purchase requisitions and/or purchase orders. Ensure that all raw material specification information and all other special and/or customer flow down requirements are included on the purchase requisition/order to meet customer commitments and optimize working capital.
  • Coordinate with Production and Sales Management to establish appropriate stocking levels.
  • Manage safety stock inventory on key raw materials and finished products.
  • Maintain contractually required finished product stock levels for key customers.
  • Work with Warehouse staff to ensure that materials are scheduled and issued to production on a FIFO basis.
  • Work with Operations group reduce Slow Moving and Obsolete Goods inventory.  
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Materials Manager or designee.

Experience and/or Education Requirements:

  • Minimum high school diploma (four year college degree preferred).
  • Minimum of three years of production/inventory control related experience in a manufacturing environment with a minimum of one year of planning experience. .   

Skills/Knowledge Requirements:   

  • Must have good interpersonal, communication and organizational skills and the ability to work with all levels of the company.
  • Should have experience in a computerized MRP system.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly (written and verbally) in English.  

Preferred Skills/Experience: 

  • APICS certification is a strong plus.
  • MS Dynamics AX experience strongly preferred

Physical Requirements: 

  •   Must be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to spend extensive time using a computer and phone to meet daily job requirements.
  • Perform all duties in compliance with regulatory and company requirements.
