Toray Advanced Composites (TAC) is a leading supplier of advanced composite materials for the aerospace, space, high performance automotive, and consumer and industrial markets. You will find our thermoset and thermoplastic composites in a wide range of applications worldwide. Most notably, we are the leading global supplier of thermoset prepregs for out-of-autoclave applications.
The customer interface for all Toray intermediate products for the Aerospace market is being concentrated in the Toray Advanced Composites EMEA group. The Toray intermediate products for Aerospace applications include the product portfolio of Toray Japan and Toray CMA. Products are predominantly thermoset prepregs. The purpose of the position is to provide technical support and project management for Toray Group products to customers with whom Toray Advanced Composites EMEA are engaging with new programs.
Scope of the position
The position is focused on supporting the development opportunities for Toray thermoset prepreg materials within the Aerospace market, predominately with a focus on Large Commercial Aircraft (focus on Airbus). Potentially, programs in General Aviation, Rotorcraft as well as Military Aircraft can be in scope as well which will be determined on a case by case base. Region is EMEA. The location of the position can be at either locations in Langley Mill UK or Nijverdal NL.
Key responsibilities
- Support and advise Sales & Marketing organization in case of technical questions and directly support customers:
• Advise on product selection, application and processing related topics
• Pro-actively engage with customer meetings and support material processing trials
• Prepare and support qualification activities with customers
• Prepare presentations / documents on product and processing
• Liaise and cooperate with Toray Group companies (Japan) from which products will be sourced during development and potentially ramp up phase.
• Undertake project planning to support material development and qualification activities
Reporting relationship
The position will report to the Product Development & Technical Manager Thermosets. There will be a strong link with the technical teams based in the UK, NL and Japan.
These assignments may be extended to cover over activities of the company or other study subjects. The functions of the Employee may be modified by mutual agreement between the Employee and the Company.
What is expected of you in this position?
As a Technical Project Engineer you are supporting our customers in material selection, sampling, screening and qualification test programs. You take care of project management, testing, analysis and reporting of data. You are doing that in close corporation with Toray colleagues in Europe & Japan. The main market you support is commercial aerospace.
In addition, you support and advise our customers (occasionally on-site, travel will be required) on their product and process developments.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for a driven and enthusiastic candidate who has a mind for detail and can work accurately. You complete this with:
- MSc or BSc degree, preferably in the field of Material Science, Aerospace / Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering;
- Demonstrable knowledge of composite materials and processes;
- At least 2 years of relevant work experience;
- Good project management and communication skills
- Knowledge and empathy with regard to the applications of our products at the customer, whereby you are an equal discussion partner for them;
- Customer-oriented and a “hands-on mentality”;
- be able to fulfill the agreements made in an effective and efficient manner;
- commercial, committed, pragmatic, reliable, flexible, analytical, efficient, innovative, creative, dynamic and enthusiastic;
- Willingness to travel between the UK and NL site locations on a regular basis.
