The primary purpose of the Buyer is assuring that material and vendor deliveries are purchased in time to meet customer requirements and ensure smooth operation of various processes that contribute to the production of goods and services for Toray Performance Materials Corporation. The Buyer monitors cost, delivery schedule and scope of assigned commodities to assure best quality at best value.

The Buyer responsible for maintaining lead times, re-order points and safety stock levels in conjunction with planning and sales input. In addition, the Buyer is responsible for interfacing freight forwarders to minimize incoming and outgoing freight cost.

The position will report to the General Manager and is based in Camarillo, California.


• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Economics or related field is required

• 2-5 experience in related field (minimum Associate’s Degree with relevant experience)

• High comfort level in diverse environments

• Ability to work over multiple time zones

• Ability to travel (North America and Asia)

• Use of production schedules to maintain inventory at planned levels

• Good judgement within defined procedures to determine appropriate action

• Knowledge of purchasing practices and procedures;

• Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships;

• Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills, ability to work effectively in a team environment

• Proven leadership abilities and decisiveness in initiating action

• Able to utilize an organized, systematic approach to procurement activities, prioritize assignments, multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment

• Excellent communication (oral/written) and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate through all levels of the organization

• Proven ability to negotiate

• Energetic hard worker that takes initiative;

• Results oriented with strong organizational skills and effective time management skills;

• Critical thinking and problem solving skills

• Strong math and computer skills (Word, Excel) required. Previous use of Navision a plus.


• Improve processes and policies in support of organizational goals.

• Placement of production and MRO purchase requisitions, gathering quotes and bids in a dynamic, fast-paced environment

• Insures that any past due PO’s are rescheduled, understood and reconfirmed on a weekly basis

• Build and manage strong supplier relationships to insure on time delivery, expedite past due orders, manage priorities at suppliers and improve supplier performance

• Ensure supplier compliance with contracts

• Planning for purchase of production materials

• Inventory management

• Work with cross functional departments (not limited to Production, Receiving, Accounts Payable) to resolve discrepancies and meet business needs

• Support other Purchasing personnel with daily activities and special projects

• Prepares bid specifications and issues bid requests.

• Interprets purchasing procedures to departments and vendors.

• Maintain purchasing KPI’s with the objective of improving business practices.
