Toray Advanced Composites is a leading supplier of thermoplastic and thermoset composite materials for the aerospace and industrial advanced composite industry.  The thermoset composites from Toray Advanced Composites are used on satellites, radomes, unmanned aircraft, general aviation and military aircraft.  Toray Advanced Composites also provides thermoset composites in high end industrial and recreational applications ranging from oil and gas to prosthetics to sporting equipment.  We provide thermoset materials with epoxy, BMI, cyanate ester or high temperature polyimide resin matrices.

The Toray Advanced Composites thermoplastic prepregs are known in the industry under the Cetex brand and are found in commercial and military aircraft ranging from structural to interior applications.  Toray Advanced Composites provides both thermoplastic prepregs in unitape or fabric from in a variety of high-end thermoplastics including PEEK, PPS, PEI as well as a full line of performance thermoplastics including Nylon, PET, PC/ABS, HDPE, and PP.

Summary of Functions:

Incumbent will be responsible for managing all quality system and quality engineering activities across a broad range of processes, ranging from procurement standards, receiving inspection, manufacturing work instructions, testing, certification and shipment of thermoset and thermoplastic composite materials and parts.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Quality Manager works with all related functions including Inside Sales, Manufacturing, Procurement, Engineering, Technical Service, Maintenance, and Shipping to achieve the company’s objectives as follows:

  • Manage compliance to AS9100 certification, including all aspects of the Quality Management system.
  • Internal audits and annual compliance and sustaining audits
  • Management Reviews
  • Administering the document control and configuration management system
  • Overseeing established calibration and testing program
  • Following-up on and driving closure of Preventive and Corrective Action Request
  • Ensuring that organizational systems and training is in place
  • Ensures that customer requests for Cause and Corrective Action are responded to in a timely manner and closed out to the customer’s satisfaction.
  • Hosts customer quality audits
  • Performs vendor quality audits as needed to ensure compliance with Toray quality system and purchase order requirements.
  • Works with Manufacturing Engineering to identify key trends and areas for focused effort towards continuous improvement.
  • Manages RMA process and gets appropriate approvals as needed
  • Support the Site Manager in establishing and measuring process performance standards associated with quality, waste/throughput, customer satisfaction and productivity.
  • Provide input to operational reviews and other efforts leading to process improvements and cost reduction activities.
  • Support investigations and resolve operational non-conformances and customer related issues
  • Participate in customer site audits and visits at Toray, support targeted projects in Toray or customer shops. Areas include defining and documenting product and processing parameters, capability, cost reductions, lean manufacturing, etc.
  • The incumbent must be able to successfully manage multiple projects and effectively represent the company.
  • Work with Site Leadership Team to drive the site goals and ensure the safe and environmentally sound performance of the site operations. Goal is to ensure that corporate and regulatory requirements are met or exceeded.
  • Working with Site Leadership Team, implement actions that contribute to the goal of achieving financial targets, such as, productivity, throughput, and scrap levels and earnings.
  • Travel will be limited, mainly between various Toray locations and key customer and vendor sites.

Experience and/or Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent
  • At least 10 years of work experience in Quality Assurance in an Aerospace focused organization, should be combined with a demonstrated track-record of accomplishments as a Quality Assurance Manager or Supervisor, and with satisfying customers in technology-driven, developing companies.
  • Experience with FAA and international Quality System rules, regulations, including planning and implementation is very important.
  • Proven leadership abilities, decisiveness in initiating actions
  • Oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and superior organizational abilities and the ability to work with all levels of the company.
  • Ability to take initiative, to maintain confidentiality, to meet deadlines, and to work in a team environment, essential.
  • PC based computing experience (Word, Excel, Power Point, documentation s/w) essential.
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills
  • Strong Process Orientation
